About NeuroCognition Laboratory (NCL)
The NeuroCognition Laboratory (NCL) is part of the School of Psychological Sciences, where cognitive neuroscience projects by faculty and PhD scholars are underway. The lab has the capacity to leverage a multimodal approach to study cognition using electrophysiology, physiological measurements and eye tracking. This laboratory also runs elective courses and lab practicum for PG students and training workshops for the two techniques. NCL was inaugurated in February 2019. However, it was closed during the pandemic and became fully operational from June, 2021 post-pandemic. The laboratory currently has six PhD scholars and numerous postgraduate students conducting research in disciplines such as Psychology, Education, Commerce and Media.
Methods at NCL
1. Electroencephalogram
We use a 64-channel Magstim EGI Geodesic EEG System with a NA400 EEG amplifier. We use E-Prime 2.0 to design and collect data for behavioural and Event-Related Potential studies. EEG acquisition and analysis is performed by Net Station 5. We can also assess additional physiological measures such as ECG, EMG and Pulse Oxymeter, using Physio 16.
Research areas at NCL using EEG:
-
Spectral Analysis of Mental States
-
ERPs in Face Perception
-
Emotional Recognition
-
Behavioural Decision Making
-
Social Cognition

2. Eye Tracking
We use SR Research's EyeLink 1000 Plus system for our experiments in eye-tracking. It is a high frequency sampling system, which can go up to 2000 Hz. We design experiments using Experiment Builder, which is a proprietary software, and use DataViewer to compile and export the data for analysis. The system is equally adept for head-mounted and head-free recordings with excellent data quality.
Research areas at NCL using Eye Tracking
-
Eyewitness Recall
-
Media and Time Perception
-
UX Research and Branding
-
Attitudes to Climate Change
-
Art Perception
